Serious improvements

The team in the pool

Well, it's been a bit of time since I last posted any status updates here. Apologies if anyone is reading this wondering where I've been.

It was an incredibly busy December at work. I was in LA frequently for work and you know how December is, lots of holiday parties. Which meant lots of eating and staying up late and not enough training. Ugh. I'm behind.

So this is my first real workout of 2018. I haven't really been doing anything physical unless you count liftng up 7lb chihuahuas and cuddling with them.

Getting back into a fitness routine can be tough. In particular, it's intimidating when the team has been reliably working out together and you've been absent. I was dreading going to practice because I was worried I would just be so far behind that I would be slow in the pool and it would be embarassing. I've also not lost any weight this year due to lack of activity so I'm a whale in the water. I didn't really need to worry though. I got in the water and quickly found my rhythem and pounded out 1500 yards. It's not going to win any awards, but I did it and did reasonably well. Check out some of the pics from my return to the water.

The bike ride was pretty awesome. I wake up in the morning and dread going for rides because I'm so out of shape. The thing is, riding a road bike is an AWESOME way to spend a few hours. On todays ride I did 18 miles, and it was a tough ride with a ton of climbing to do. Silicon Valley is known for tech companies, but we have some of the best recreation road biking routes in the country. Lots of endurance flat stretches followed by some long, slow climbs and exhilarating down hill moments to rest your legs. I'm always impressed by how much fun it is to get on a bike and just go here. I may dread it, but a mile into the ride, I'm having the time of my life.
