I don't think I could have anticipated what a fantastic event this year's Cancer's a Drag was. Not only was it incredibly well attended, but everyone had a ton of fun and we raised a bunch of money to aid in the fight against cancer.
So how did it do? Well, we raised a total of $6126 in one night. And beyond the drag performances, there were some unexpectedly large donations to the cause that I am incredibly thankful for. A little bit more on that in a bit.
WooWoo Monroe put together a great cast of local South Bay performers. Jackie Lation, Alpha, Talon Marks, Poly Vinyl, Angel Michaels and of course WooWoo Monroe were the lineup for the evening and everyone pulled out all the stops to make the night a special one for the audience.
The night was an incredible success with over $4300 being donated by the audience. Which is a record. So where did the other money come from? Well, the bar staff at Renegades donated their tips from the previous weekend to the cause. They presented WooWoo with $1135! In addition, the organizer of Party Animals, a furry oriented Friday night party, donated the door from their party held the weekend prior to the cause. Another big donation of $628 bucks! That brought the total up to $6126 in one night. That's my biggest fundraising success to date and I can't thank the barstaff and the Party Animals enough. Of course, WooWoo and all the queens deserve a massive round of applause
